Is There a vAMPire Lurking in Your House?

I like to do what I can to be kind to the environment, and I also like to find ways to save money where ever possible. If I an combine those saving green and being "green" then all the better.

I have often heard different theories on how much electricity/money I would save if I were to unplug appliances and other electronics when they weren't in use. I just saw this clip that I embedded here from a series called The Savings Experiment. The gal on here shows how you can measure the amount of power that things like toasters, computers and DVRs suck up when they are not in use, but still plugged in.

She found out through her experiment that she would only save about 20.00 a year if she unplugged all of her appliances when not in use. For her it was not worth it financially, and it would not really make the big of a difference to me either. Then I thought about multiplying that in terms of electricity used on the planet, how much energy would it save total?

As she points out everyone has a different sized house and amount of electronics, so it may add up to more or less for you and I, but know I want to get one of the testing gizmos she talks about in the clip....interesting.

I could not get the video embedding to work, so you can go here to check it out,,
